Read a Thon
Read a Thon is one of Sherman PTSA’s biggest annual fundraisers - inspiring students to dive into books while supporting our school community. Students have a personal webpage to track both their reading minutes and donations. Volunteers are key in helping this event run smoothly so that it is motivating for kids to engage in both reading and fundraising.
Read a Thon runs Monday November 2 - Monday November 23
Roles & Shifts
Help with planning and communication. Share responsibility of preparing reports 2-3 times a week during Read-a-thon for swag tag distribution. Make sure other volunteers know what they need to do.
Plan themed, age-appropriate parties for classes that reach their reading goals. Hilary Brewer will support volunteer coordination for these parties via Voluntold. The parties will take place after Read a Thon is over. (Role date and time are entered arbitrarily, party planning is flexible on your own time and then class party schedule will be arranged with classroom teachers and volunteers)
Update the minute trackers on classroom doors and bulletin board as often as possible. Shift date and time are just the first day of Read a Thon, ideally this role would be shared between a 2-3 people who can rotate updating the signs and bulletin board every day during Read a Thon, Nov 2-23rd.
Acquire prizes and incentives via donations and PTSA budgeted amount (Role date and time are entered arbitrarily, event chairs will collaborate with you to set actual dates and times)
Meet in the parent room 1-3 times a week to write names on swag tags and hand out to classrooms. Requires a laptop. (Role date and time are entered arbitrarily, event chairs will collaborate with you to set actual dates and times)
Create list of raffle winners each Friday during the Read-a-Thon and manage distribution of prizes
